Carrington is comprised of almost 170 acres of residential, retail, and public open space uses in northwest Calgary. The subject lands form part of the Keystone Area Structure Plan, intended to ultimately house 60,000 people. Carrington is anticipated to house 4,400 people with 1,400 residential units ranging from single detached to apartments above retail uses. The intent was to create a modified grid pattern incorporating natural areas, while meeting and exceeding the intensities as identified in Calgary’s Municipal Development Plan (over 8 units per acre and 60 people and jobs per hectare). The subject lands are located adjacent to a future Major Activity Centre, which includes a future LRT station and transit station planning area. This plan was approved by Council in 2014 and is currently under construction.
