13th Avenue Heritage Greenway

City of Calgary Project led by Sonny Tomic

In 2008, Sonny Tomic developed street character typologies for the City of Calgary that included guidelines for all streets in Calgary’s Centre City. One of the most unique streetscape improvement opportunities was identified on 13 Avenue South, in the Beltline Community. The street unifies four Beltline neighourhoods and connects several historic parks and architecture of historical significance.

The 13 Avenue Heritage Greenway was designed with exceptional streetscape treatments incorporating generous, double tree lined sidewalks, a protected bike lane, unique lighting and street furniture. Phase 1 of the 13 Avenue Heritage Greenway public realm improvements were implemented in 2014.
