Our talented team continues to grow to support both our core and new service areas. We now have 45 members in our B&A family.


Master Planning & Urban Design, Land Use & Development Approvals

We are continually seeking the best talent to support our core service areas including Master Planning, Urban Design, and Land Use & Development Approvals. We currently have 28 in-house planners and urban design team members, with our most recent hires being Mark and Heather.

Mark Spence (MCP), Urban Design Associate – Mark works closely with our Master Planning & Urban Design group to further optimize growth and deliver exceptional results for our clients in this area. Mark has over 18 years of private and municipal planning experience, mostly focusing on master-planned communities, neighbourhood design, site planning, and commercial development.


Heather Dybvig (BA, MSC Town Planning), Senior Planner – Heather focuses on working with clients within two of our primary service sectors: Master Planning & Urban Design and Land Use & Development Approvals. Heather joins B&A Planning Group after spending six years with the City of Calgary’s Planning and Developing Department. With experience leading projects in both the suburban and inner city context, Heather brings an understanding of both new community subdivision design and infill redevelopment from a municipal perspective.


Communications, Engagement, Marketing & Graphic Design

At B&A, we understand the importance of comprehensive and strategic communications and engagement campaigns to support a successful project approval process. Over the past several years, we’ve expanded our services to include Communications, Engagement & Marketing.

We now have an in-house team of eight talented professionals including three senior graphic designers and four communications, marketing, and engagement specialists.

We’re currently working on a broad range of communications, engagement and marketing campaigns across Western Canada for both municipal and private sector clients. We offer a full suite of services including project branding and visual identity, website development, communications and engagement campaigns and project marketing and sales toolkits.

We’ve recently hired four new team members to support growth and successful delivery of current and upcoming projects.


Bridget Honch (BComm, IAP2), Communications & Engagement Specialist – Bridget is responsible for the successful development and implementation of communications and engagement projects across Western Canada. Bridget has spent the last seven years of her career with leading communications and engagement firms including as a Senior Advisor with Communica Public Affairs, and as a Communications & Stakeholder Engagement Strategist with Russell Public Relations. She has a track record in building and implementing innovative engagement strategies, public events and communication campaigns.


Martha McClary (BA, IAP2), Engagement Specialist – Martha is responsible for the successful development and implementation of engagement campaigns on projects across Alberta and Saskatchewan including taking a lead role managing and building relationships with project stakeholders. Martha has seven years of hands-on experience working with stakeholders across Western Canada including rural municipalities, landowners, and NGO’s. Her most recent roles include Community Innovation Manager at Connect First Credit Union and Community Affairs Advisor at Cenovus Energy.


John Popowich, Senior Graphic Designer – John is responsible for the creative production of a broad range of compelling materials including brand and visual identity concepts and sales and marketing toolkits. John brings over 16 years of experience in award-winning graphic design and marketing for the home building and land development industry and has an extensive client list including Jayman, Calbridge Homes, Trico Homes, La Vita Land, Dream, and Homes by Albi. John has been a finalist in multiple SAM awards including a 2015 finalist for Marketing Campaign of the Year, Best Sales & Information Centre, Best Billboards and Best Print Ad for projects with Calbridge and La Vita Land Inc.


Fernando Vargas (BFA, NMPD), Senior Graphic Designer – Fernando is responsible for the creative production of internal and external materials, whether it is project branding, communications and engagement efforts, documents and reports, project websites, or B&A’s brand and marketing initiatives. Fernando brings ten years of graphic design experience in combination with marketing, creative team leadership, creative project management, and art direction. He has employed his creative talents and marketing capabilities in the design of promotional/advertising materials, logo, identity, branding, and packaging design as well as website interface and user experience design.
