In May 2016, Kathy Oberg was appointed new Managing Partner at B&A. Kathy has been with B&A for 17 years and has 20 years of planning experience in the Calgary Region.
“I’m excited to lead B&A and carry forward and build upon the excellent foundation and reputation that has been built from the ground-up over the past 28 years,” says Kathy. “As the firm continues to grow and evolve, we’ve established a Strategic Management Team (SMT) that will propel the company forward and guide future success.”
The SMT is comprised of five B&A partners – Kathy Oberg, Vern Hart, Ken Venner, Pam MacInnis, and Nathan Petherick.
The SMT will focus on realizing the long-term vision and strategic priorities of our firm including:
A partnership transition plan has also been developed by the SMT to address retirements that will occur in next few years with B&A continuing to be an active partner owned company.

Kathy Oberg (BEDes, MEDes, RPP, MCIP), Managing Partner – Kathy has 20 years of planning experience in the Calgary region with more than 17 years at B&A. Her leadership, passion, and vision for creating communities have played a pivotal role in helping grow our organization. Kathy’s expertise lies in the preparation and coordination of projects ranging from subdivision and site design to outline plans, land use redesignations, and area structure plans. She brings experience in urban design, master plan design, subdivision design and land use planning to the team, and has an education in sustainable community design. Her strengths include the ability to build strong relationships with municipal administration and council in addition to her aptitude to communicate effectively with her clients and project stakeholders.
As part of the SMT, Kathy will focus on the overall management of the firm.
Vern Hart (RPP, MCIP), Partner – Vern has been with B&A for over nine years and has a broad range of planning experience gained through 27 years of working with a variety of urban and rural municipalities. He brings a unique blend of process improvement, policy development, and experience. Vern’s expertise lies in his extensive knowledge of municipal policy and implementation processes and his ability to deal with complex and unique projects often found in developed communities. His strengths include his communication and public engagement skills and his ability to effectively work with clients, municipal administration, and communities in seeking creative solutions.
As part of the SMT, Vern will focus on developing human resource policies to attract and retain top talent.
Pam MacInnis (RPP, MCIP), Partner – Pam has been with B&A for over ten years and has been a planner in the Calgary Region for 17 years. Her area of focus is the project coordination processes for suburban/community scaled Area Structure Plans, Neighbourhood Plans, Outline Plans and Land Use Redesignation applications. Pam contributes her successful approval history to understanding both client and municipal needs and finding a way to reach win-win-win solutions. Pam’s communication and collaborative style has facilitated positive and trusted working relationships with her clients and municipal approving bodies.
As part of the SMT, Pam will focus on the financial health and management of the firm through effective and efficient financial systems and processes.
Ken Venner (BA, RPP, MCIP), Partner – Ken has been with B&A for over nine years. He is a versatile planning professional with more than 19 years of experience managing a diverse range of land development projects in both urban and rural municipalities. He is a creative, energetic and business-oriented municipal planner who strives to connect opposing stakeholder perspectives by listening first and subsequently creating plans with a common resolve to guide development projects to successful outcomes.
As part of the SMT, Ken will focus on maintaining and building a strong employee culture that embraces B&A’s core values.
Nathan Petherick (BA, MA, RPP, MCIP), Partner – Nathan has been with B&A for over six years. He brings a diversity of experience with more than 15 years of planning work with a variety of urban and rural municipalities. Nathan’s core expertise includes strategic planning, project management, urban and rural development, communications, policy formulation and governance support. Nathan’s experience spans the development and implementation of wide-ranging community planning initiatives throughout British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan, to working with the United Nations Development Program, local government, and NGO’s on a municipal governance and service delivery planning in New Amsterdam, Guyana.
As part of the SMT, Nathan will focus on growth, marketing, and business development for B&A with an emphasis on service area diversification, geographic expansion and new client acquisition.
Darrell Grant, Partner – Darrell has been with B&A for over 28 years and has been involved in the land development industry since the mid1970s. He is recognized as an industry leader in Master Planning and has played a key role in building a strong reputation for B&A through his exceptional plans for diverse projects across Western Canada.
Darrell will continue to lead our Master Planning & Urban Design service area, provide day-to-day project management and support the SMT in a senior advisory role as required.
Ron Wrigley, Partner – Ron has been with B&A since prior to inception with over 31 years of service with the firm. He has been invaluable in building a strong reputation for B&A as a firm that helps clients achieve project success in a broad range of planning endeavours.
Ron will continue to lead our Energy & Resource Development service area, provide day-to-day project management and support the SMT in a senior advisory role as required.
