About the Role

Are you ready to join and grow B&A’s Master Planning and Urban Design Service Area?

B&A Planning Group is looking for a full-time, dynamic Senior Master Planning & Urban Design Specialist with leading expertise in Master Planning and Urban Design to help lead and grow this core service area. This position will demonstrate a practical understanding of market realities, client development objectives and municipal requirements to creatively plan and design a wide range (i.e. commercial, residential, office, industrial) of award winning and implementable development projects in urban, suburban and rural contexts. Through extensive design expertise and a proven ability to lead and collaborate on multi-disciplinary project teams, you will positively position the evolution and growth of B&A’s Master Planning and Urban Design service area.

In this position, you will bring your passion and design creativity to B&A’s wide ranging land development projects by thoughtfully integrating innovation and originality in an implementable manner. Your passion for the development and delivery of place-making and best-practice municipal and land development plans & designs will drive project success. Your understanding of municipal regulations and processes will help translate awardwinning design into approved projects that get built. A strong communication style and collaborative approach will remain key to fostering strong relationships with existing, new and potential clients.


  • A minimum of 10 years of related experience in the Planning, Architectural or Landscape Architectural field preferably in a consulting environment with proven expertise in large scale master planning and urban design initiatives
  • Full accreditation in relevant field of expertise (e.g. RPP)
  • Proven industry recognition and relationships
  • Full understanding of master planning, urban design and place-making in an urban, suburban and rural context
  • Exemplary ability to communicate verbally, in writing, and through drawings
  • Adeptness at hand drawing and sketching to quickly develop and convey design concepts
  • Demonstrated creative ability, including urban, architectural, and graphic design
  • Project organization and management expertise with proven ability to collaborate and mentor
  • Ability to lead design workshops and enhance community engagement processes
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, the Adobe Suite, and Sketch-Up
  • Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS including spatial analyst, 3D analyst and City Engine extensions
  • Be accountable for the successful completion of projects, manage contracts, track project budgets, and organize schedules
  • Oversee development and execution of design ideas, and key deliverables with assistance of support team
  • Mentor junior team members to foster growth and development of master planning and urban design service area
